Love of neighbor: 5 attitudes to transform people's lives

Love of neighbor is the strongest teaching Jesus Christ. For through it it is possible to put into practice all other teachings. After all, when we love our neighbors, we do to each other everything we would like them to do with us, such as respecting, welcoming and empathizing.

Throughout his life, Jesus has always left a wide legacy of love for his neighbor. Just look at the records of the disciples and apostles who immortalized inspirational teachings and lessons in their narratives that are absolutely practical for our lives - even today. Among all the lessons, one of them draws a lot of attention: the parable of the good Samaritan.

In the passage quoted, Christ highlights the attitude of a young man who, when passing through a road, promptly attends a person who had been assaulted and injured. But the most profound lesson lies in the fact that two other men, at different times, did not even pay attention to the needy. Only the third person who passed by - the Samaritan - gave him the necessary assistance and put his love for his neighbor into practice.

What's more, he took that gentleman to an inn, paid for the services and even said that if he needed to, he would return there to bear other costs necessary for the recovery of that patient. This parable of Jesus, although it has been told for almost two thousand years, draws our attention due to the relevance of the teaching: how many times are we called to work and really strive to contribute to those who need it most?

Certainly, the value of the story lies precisely in the Samaritan's empathetic attitude in helping others. In other words: he did not leave the responsibility for someone else who passed to provide the service. Not! He found himself called upon to contribute and fulfilled his purpose. A great and inspiring example for today, in which there is so much talk of empathy, but it is not always clear what this is in practice.

Although this parable shows us empathy and a practical example of love for others, what is the definition for this term?

What is love for others?

Love of neighbor is to help the other without wanting anything in return, it is an act of compassion and empathy without being carried away by pride. Therefore, loving your neighbor is caring about the other's life and treating them with respect.

It also means that we need to love ourselves, because a person can only help others and love others when they love themselves too. After all, the love she cultivates begins to become so great that she feels the need to spread it to the people around her.

5 attitudes on how to cultivate love for others

As important as developing that noble feeling, it is making right choices and having appropriate attitudes that really impact the lives of people in need who cross our path. To help you, we have listed 6 attitudes you can adopt to transform the lives of those who need them most.

1. Have a humanitarian attitude and love your neighbor

It is natural that Christian lessons make us more prepared to reach out to those who need it most and put into practice the teaching of love for others. However, in the running routine, we often end up not paying real attention to the unique opportunities to adopt a humanitarian stance.

That's why we put this as our first tip. In order for you to understand what this represents in practice, we have listed some healthy habits that are worth cultivating to achieve this purpose:

be kind to everyone who crosses your path, as we have no idea what's going on in each person's life. A smile, followed by a good day or a kind attitude can mean a lot to those around us;

respect parking spaces and give preference to tickets: places for the elderly, disabled and pregnant women need to be dedicated to those who need them. Assert that right! If you notice someone who has not noticed this, be polite and comment with the person as well;

value peace in the home: we often have a lot of patience with friends at work or with our religious group, but not always with those at home. Be a peacemaker within your home. This is also a humanitarian attitude;

respect others: despite the differences between people, it is necessary to practice respect for others. Differences do not exist to separate, but to unite and diversify life. Respecting a thought, lifestyle or the different characteristics of the other is a way of loving him.

2. Participate in social projects and enhance your love for others

In the above recommendation, we talk about attitudes that we should have 24 hours a day. But, have you thought about dedicating an hour a week or a longer period a month to volunteer in transformative initiatives?

There are countless ways to do this: regular ties, in social projects that require frequent involvement , even sporadic performances in joint efforts and actions on commemorative dates, for example.

And if the lack of time is your problem, it is also possible to opt for digital volunteering. In it, you can distribute content through social networks that disseminate inspiring initiatives, to engage volunteers or even donors. It is also a valuable work that can be done at various times of the day, even at dawn or on the weekend.

3. Share what you do well

Still in this wave of social networks, it is important to externalize (put out) what our heart carries best. And that means saying constructive words that will bring courage and hope.

Nowadays, with so much bad happening, we can not put ourselves in the role of encouraging discouragement, releasing phrases such as: "oh, there is no way" or "everything is lost".

Whoever loves his neighbor, values words and evidently knows how to use them with all those who cross his path. This is also true for the virtual environment. After all, a post us can go we never imagined.

For this reason, this humanitarian attitude of encouragement and positivity on social networks overflows. There is a very cool thought by Alziro Zarur, a Brazilian broadcaster, who says: “one word, it can save a life. A word can lose a life ”. Think about it!

4. Listen to music and read phrases of love for others

In addition to sharing your love for others through social media, you can nurture that feeling in yourself. The phrases and songs of love for your neighbor are great for growing that feeling.

So, check out some phrases that you can read, reflect and even take as a mantra for your life:

“Respecting everyone's freedom of individuality is a form of love for others”;

“Love of neighbor is the greatest proof that humanity exists”;

“Give love to others and life will give you much more than you had before”;

“Love for others consists in doing to others what you would like them to do for you”;

“Nobody knows the pain that the other went through. Nobody knows the fights that the other fought. Love more, judge less ”;

“Respect and love for others are the basis for a better world. Respect and love everything and everyone around you. ”.

Now, let's see some songs that talk about this feeling of empathy and help each other for you to listen to during the day:

Loving others - Edson and Hudson;

Love is for those who love - Lenine;

Your love - Caetano Veloso.

These songs talk about love for others and how important it is to everyone. By listening to them and paying attention to their lyrics, we can perceive and internalize these thoughts. Thus, you feed yourself with love and then pass it on to others in the form of help, respect and humility.

5. Exercise conscious consumption

On a planet as interconnected as ours, have you ever thought that every action of ours has a reaction? And this is no different in terms of consumption.

Just an uncontrolled trip to the supermarket, we can trigger a waste process - which is a crime on a planet with so many people going hungry. So, encourage conscientious consumption: buy only what you need!

It also means paying attention to the items we have. It is not because a new smartphone was launched that we need to put aside the one that is in good working order. If you want to change, donate the previous device.

With the garments, do the same thing. When buying a new item, donate one that is standing in your wardrobe. Thus, we give usefulness to what we no longer use and practice loving our neighbor!
